About Elm Grove Dental
Elm Grove Dental was founded in 1988 by Dr. Michael Wilcox. He moved his office to the current location in 2001 when he completed a full renovation of the building to outfit a dental practice. His associate, Dr. Mary Palmer Gioia, joined his practice in 1998. Together they served the community with quality dental care for over 20 years.
In 2019 Dr. Mike was considering his retirement and through mutual friends was able to connect with Dr. David Schmid and Dr. Gabrielle Helms who were at the time practicing in Inwood, WV and Martinsburg, WV. Being born and raised in Wheeling, WV, Dr. Dave and Dr. Gabby were looking for an opportunity to move back to their hometown to practice Dentistry closer to their family.
In December 2020, Dr. Dave joined Elm Grove Dental and transitioned into owner of the practice when Dr. Mike retired in April 2021. In July 2021, Dr. Gabby joined her brother and Dr. Mary to serve the patients at Elm Grove Dental.
Here at Elm Grove Dental, we pride ourselves on quality dental treatment and strive to keep up to date with the latest treatments and technology.
We have recently updated our dental handpieces and hygiene ultrasonic cleaners and incorporated a Digital Panorex machine and Digital Intraoral Scanner for taking impressions. We are looking forward to more updates in the future to help make your patient experience as comfortable and easy as possible. We are compassionate and conservative in our care. Our goal is to prevent dental catastrophes and pain and to help you make your mouth as healthy and beautiful as can be!

We accept most insurance plans and our in network with Delta Dental, MetLife, United Concordia and Liberty Dental for Retirees.

If it is after hours, you are a patient of record and you are having swelling, bleeding or pain that cannot wait until we are open, call our after-hours number as directed on our answering machine.
If it is after hours and you are not a patient of record, please call the office at (304)242-8959 and we will call you as soon as possible when we return to the office.
If you have significant swelling, bleeding, pain, or having difficulty breathing or swallowing, please go to the Emergency Room.
Our office is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30am to 5pm and Friday from 8:30am to 1pm.
We are “in network” with Delta Dental, Met Life, United Concordia and Liberty Dental for Retirees. We accept many other insurances also. Please call (304)242-8959 if you have any insurance questions.
Prior to your visit, we can send you a link to fill out your patient registration paperwork if you would like to do so electronically, or we have the paper forms ready for you when you arrive. Please bring your current dental insurance card. Also please bring a current list of medications so that we can treat you safely. If you have been seen by another dentist within the past year or two, please let us know so we can request a copy of your x-rays prior to your visit with us.
If you have been seen within the past 6 months or so by another dentist, had been receiving routine cleanings and exams and are not having any significant pain or problems with your mouth, you may be able to schedule for an exam, any necessary x-rays and a cleaning at your first visit. However, if it has been a while since your last dental exam or if you having any dental problems, we want to make sure we have enough time to discuss our findings and your concerns. We will formulate a treatment plan that fits your needs and desires and then usually have you schedule your cleaning for another day.
